Public Health Wales is an NHS body whose purpose is to protect and improve health and well-being and reduce health inequalities. With that in mind, they wanted to redesign and produce a new publication which was accessible to a wide target audience and encapsulated useful information for those who are pregnant, leading them through birth up until their child is five years of age.

Public Health Wales (PHW) were looking to replace their existing Pregnancy and Birth to Five publications, as the old books were becoming dated and lacked the desired impact and receptiveness with parents of all backgrounds and literacy levels.

We designed a bilingual publication which utilised bespoke illustration and photography, as well as bright colours to help ensure that the publication was interesting, engaging and that the information could be found quickly without parents feeling overwhelmed or intimidated with too much information.

This design was so greatly admired, it has since set a precedent for a number of following projects, all of which now utilise these design principles.
